1st off, most people fit the YZ forks and fitting kit as you don't have to turn down the steerer to fit the BMW head bearings.....but you do have to buy a custom brake hanger, axle and something else (sorry i cant remember the last part) that's costs more than i spent on my whole build.
My way uses all off the shelf parts and then just a little bit of machining. This all took me quite a while to work out (14 months) as nobody has done it this way yet, so this is what i did;
-Bought WP (***********) fork legs off a 2001 CCM 644. They use a 17MM axle which is the same as the BMW one so it fits the BMW wheel bearings. My fork guy said it would be pointless spending serious money re-valving and springing them as they are already very close to being valved and sprung to the BMW weight anyway.

-Bought crowns off a KTM LC4 as they have a 20 degree rake (CCM has 17 degree rake) and a longer steerer.
-Bought a right hand side KTM brake hanger of KTM 640 Adventure (KTM and BMW use the same Brembo brake), this is so i can use the original BMW 300MM disk. But you will have to remove the washers from the disk bolts or they will hit the calliper when the wheel turnes.
-Machining- So the only engineering for the whole job is trimming the steerer down, trimming down the wheel spacers (by 1.5MM) that came with the CCM forks and removing the threaded part on the original BMW top bearing cover. My mate is doing it for free but i have been out and gotten a quote of ÂŁ35 to trim it down.
Steerer

bearing top plate, removal of bearing holder,

I used the BMW spacers on both sides and then the trimmed down CCM one on the disk side.

When i took the last pic i haddnt pushed the axel all the way through but it does go all the way through.
-i have also made a the very basic steering stop and barrel holder. might not look the best but they work great.
Touratech do sell the kit to do this for...and get ready for this...ÂŁ3200, whereas the total cost of all my parts; forks, yolks, hanger, brake line, spindle, and machining has costing me a grand total of ÂŁ412 bargain

and with my old TT39 tanks, brand new ones going on soon

And know with my KTM Adeventure headlight set up, wrightup to come soon
