Restricting an F650GS to 35kW for the new A2 licence?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy an F650 imminently but I'm restricted to 35kW by the new A2 licence. Has anybody come across any restrictor kits which are available yet?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, My Funduro is restricted, in Spain its 25kw, dont worry about the power output its still fantastic, 140 kph or 85 mph on motorway, Motorworks in Yorkshire may have the carb restrictor you want http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=5&NU=15&M=60&Ct=EA&SbCt=BA_15_60_EA_50 phone them , they are really helpful. regards Jim..........sorry just looked at your profile, yours is the GS, so cant comment, but ring them anyway for advice on restriction, think they do a cable restrictor that will do the job. think this is the part you want?? http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=5&NU=15&M=65&Ct=EA&SbCt=BA_15_65_EA_55

actually, dont think u need to call anybody. F650GS is injection. if you look at the the throttle cable end you will notice that you can pull the cable out and stick it in to the position two, that will five you limited throttle opening, and thats pretty much it. they do sell new cable sleeve bracket with restriction plate on the top of it, but i dont think thats needed. the only thing is, once stopped you need to prove that it has been restricted, so you kinda need paperwork for it.

the main difference between the two brackets is how the cable lines up with the cam,

if you just swap the cable position over the cable will be out of alignment and may not run properly through the cam guides,

the replacement bracket is only a few quid so I can't see the point in not doing properly

this is of course for a 25Kw restriction and not 35Kw as the OP requested

Thanks for all of your replies. I had read Boris' guide but he is referring to the old 25kW limit whereas I'm asking about the new 35kW limit that's come in since 19th Jan 2013. I know that Fi make a 35kW certified throttle stop but it's ÂŁ180! I was just wondering if anybody had seen anything else yet.

Cheers,
Mike

I am looking to buy F650 CS and have the same 35kw issue. After calling my local motocycle mechanics they informed me that there is a throttle stop limiter similar to what fredl posted. I was quoted about ÂŁ180 fitted and with all the necessary certificates.
So my best advice is to give a few local mechanics a call and ask around.

Hope that helps.

As I have posted before, my Funduro is on a 25kw restrictor(different from the GS's) and there is still more than enough power and top speed to fall foul of the boys in blue. I dont know the current regulations as its different here in Spain, I take it that its OK to use the bike on restriction laws UP TO 35kw, so why not fit the 25kw for a few quid instead of banging your head:wall: trying to spend 200 quid, I'm sure the difference is minimal in output and you can ditch it when conditions allow you to use the full 52 HP at a later date;Um: regards Jim
