Does anybody know of a UK based tuner for the F650/Rotax motor that could supply a MANUAL Cam Chain tensioner to replace the hydraulic one fitted as standard.

Thanks

This is the second one in 18,000 miles that has started to rattle from start-up. It's not everytime and mainly from cold but it SHOULDN'T.

You'll probably say "they all do that".

I just thought if I could buy a manual one, once set it would not need touching except when it's serviced and only then if it's starting to rattle.

I can buy one from here http://www.rotax.net/

or

here http://www.team-pami.com/englisch/index.htm

just would have prefered to buy in UK

Would the rattle from start up disappear once the oil has circulated around the dry sump engine?

That'll be why "they all do that" sir.

The days that it rattles it rattles for about 4 seconds then quietens but always seems slightly noisey when sat at traffic lights etc.

The days it doesn't rattle at start-up it is quieter all the time.

I don't want to change it unless I have to as I've an ABS model so space is tight, but I don't like the rattle.

First off, as you say... it should not rattle at all. If you have changed it twice already then I think you might have a different problem...
Have a think about:

when changing oil do you have burs on the sump plug?
Do you have enough oil?
Are you using the right oil for the conditions?
did you get the tensioner kit with the new screw last time?

I have had the older model tensioner for 35k on the bike and only recently changed it pushing 45k[/u]

Thanks for your comments.

The bike has been dealer serviced and they changed the tensioner last time. I do wonder if there is an underlying problem so my idea was to change the tensioner for a manual one to eliminate it from the equation.

I've changed the oil to a different type to the one they use but the problem remains.

I'll probably order a manual tensioner from the states after Christmas and see what that does for the rattle.

I seem to remember that when mine was making similar noises I looked at the info on the ChainGang site in the Cam Chain FAQ and it suggested that the noise from the CT could be caused by the Automatic Decompresion Release Mechanism. There is a report and some pictures on the site. There is also a useful noise diagnostic table.

I didn't follow it up with mine because the noise has died down again.

Just a thought
