Im trying to sell my 2006 GS - (will take a while as i have to get it re registered so as to remove the number plate) but by the look of it most 2006 bikes are going for around £4000 does this seem about average then?

This one is 1,000 miles is as new with comfort pack etc also factory lowered

anyone have any ideas please?

ah, not heard of that one, waiting is fine as i cant put her up for sale until i have removed the personal plate, so looking at a month to get all paperwork sorted for that.

Thank you, that would help

Is there any data available which gives retained value percentages for bikes, as there is for cars? I thought about doing a bsic study myself based on the Parkers guide.

Just done one.

Data based on 04 bike, selling privately in good condition.
New Now Ret Loss
650GS £5160 £2995 58% 2165
Transalp £5249 £3470 66% 1779
Pegaso £4825 £2465 51% £2360
1200GS £9275 £6785 73% £2490
Varadero £7499 £3560 47% 3939

So if your a Yorkshireman, Buy a 1200GS.

Dave

PS Somebody best check my maths!!

Are you looking at a 2004 bike or an 04 registration?

A March 2004 on an 04 plate with up to 9k miles, a dealer would buy for £2650 & retail at £3625 (add £150 for ABS) if in Good, clean condition.

A similar R1200GS on an 04 plate with up to 12k miles  , a dealer would buy for £5775 & retail for £7175.

Allowing for the dealer to do any servicing/repairs needed, have some showroom to sell it from, give some sort of warranty & still make a living (profit if you wish to vulgarise it :) ) & you ca see where much of the difference is.

I was refering to an 04 registration. If anybody wants to take this further, running costs could be calculated to determine a lifetime cost?

ah fantastic thank you very much, mine has just over 1000 miles and does have abs really is as new also has panniers with it dont know if that makes any difference?

so will start just above the 4500 and see what happens, will let you know what i finally get!

it is amazing how little they are worth at a year old! knew i should have sold it last year, had it estimated at 5500 in sept!! oh well...
