I have a G650 engine for a project I'm building, but I know very little about the engine.

Basically I bought it because it was a good price - I have a wiring loom plus ignition coils and an exhaust front pipe, but little else. I really need to know what I need to make it run!

I know I'll need a throttle body/injectors plus some kind of ECU to drive the injection; a battery, starter, oil tank and radiator.

Is there a dealer who specialises in used parts for these? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks, Andy

Probably your best starting point would be to look at a complete bike, e.g. spares repairs on eBay or at a breakers, that way you can work out what is missing and possibly buy the bits or whole bike as a donor.

Hi Andy,
That looks like an interesting project and what crossed my mind when I first examined my G650GS engine! What's that rolling chassis?
For used parts Motorworks are a good source; they do new and pattern too.
Also for new and pattern try Motobins.

Hi Andy, as others have said Motorworks is a good source, you can also use the link on their site to get part number and diagrams of how things sit on the bike it at. www.realoem.com
You just been to type in the bike details and everything is there, if you need a part just send Motorworks the part number and they can source it for you otherwise for things like bearings and sleeves just take the measurements and get them from the likes of simply bearings.

Thanks, I did think I might need a donor bike but I'm a bit short of space! I think I'd have to have a buyer lined up for the frame and running gear...

Thanks, it's a Sachs XTC125 frame. I have two with the intention of building two bikes - I figured I'd be able to recover some of the cost by selling one of the bikes when they're finished...

Thank you! No real issues with the mechanical side of things but I must admit the thought of trying to get ignition and injection to work is a bit scary...

If you go down the route of just getting parts don't forget the ignition switch and keys that goes with the ECU otherwise you'll have problems with the built in immobiliser.
