My fuel switch is badly discoloured (and therefore corroded) with salt deposit. I have tried to remove the salt white with Muc Off and elbow greese, but it doesn't come up cleanly and very quickly becomes salty again. :-(

What can I use to protect this important switch? I would like to protect it - even though I know it's getting out of winter now.

Thanks
Ali

WD-40 is wonderful stuff for bit and pieces like this. Give it a bit of a spray and a bit of a wipe. You'll need to re-do it, of course, but my bikes (those that get used during winter) get a good dose on the forks stantions, carbs, swing arm, etc., all the bits that generally take a battering from road salt.

I have also tried Scottoiler 365 this winter, and will probably use it on engines in future, but for easy-to-get-at-bits I'll stick with WD-40 as it seems to stick better and do a better job.

The best stuf I've found is ACF50, designed for aircraft and boats, expensive but a little goes a long way and it works very well.
