After my business crashed due to the covid lockdowns I had to sell my previous bike (Honda NC700X). I cannot afford to replace it (2nd hand models are still too expensive) so I'm looking for a long-used F650GS, a bike I've always admired. Being technical I will be able to fix/maintain it so even if I pick up a bargain 15 year old model I'm happy to spend some effort, time & a little money. I will be using this forum to find out as much as possible about the F650GS, to be used as a commuter / tourer.
If there is any advice on any particular model to look at or stay away from it would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Good choice ( we are biased here😊)
We owners tend to be long term and look after our bikes. 15 yr old ish looking at late single spark or twin spark, latter bike few mods over single spark . Check faqs on buying and issues , SH is very preferable with any bike, these bikes are robust, basic design litte changed since came out in 1990's , 2000 onwards have improved electrics, fuel injection. GS/GD chain drive, CS belt drive with few quirks running gear , same engine .
