Anybody experienced any problems using these bike cleaners over a long period of time, ie deterioating paintwork/metalwork etc.? They seem to shift muck & grease so well, i just wondered what else they are removing!

Ride magazine tested cleaners recently and checked for marking as well as grease, bug and dirt removal. Top 5 were:

1. Hippo ?6
2. Moto X-treem ?6
3. Autoglym ?7
4. Motorex Motoclean 900 ?8.92
5. Hein Gericke ?3

Hein Gericke won "Best Buy" due to its good performance and low price. None of these marked metal or caused corrosion on sample pieces tested.

So there you go.

Thanks Maxis

I saw (probably same test) the same conclusion in Bike magazine, however being a bit cynical I tend not to believe everything I read in magazines.

Just wondered how they perform in the real world with mere mortals.

I use Castrol motorcycle cleaner (available from Halfords and most bike shops) which is what BVM use on bikes they service. My bikes came back so clean, I asked them what they used. I've used it ever since with no problem and good results. I also whack on some FS365 after too.
