Hi Ian

I love it. I was searching through other forums but I always liked it here. So this is a good way to stay here. I am going to pick my R1100R up next tuesday. I can't wait. My F650 ST is not speaking to me. If I had a better boss I would try and keep both.

if it's anything like when I went to pick up the 1150GS my Funduro gave me the best ride ever for the 90 mile trip.

it's almost like they know you're about to part with them and they're doing their damnedest to make you change your mind.
I can't actually remember my last ride on the F650GS I owned. I can remember the first, and some great ones inbetween, but the last ride, nope!

Hi Johnny
I am still convinced that red is the colour. I will miss the F650 ST and I hope that thew R1100R can match the reliability of the F650.
I don't use the bike a lot but when I do use it it is always for longer rides from which 65 to 75 % is motorway. I might use the bike for my Austria holiday next year.
I now get a chance to compare injection reliability. I hope it never fails.

Thanks Ian - good idea and I'm grateful. I'am about to go round Ireland on the Dakar but will be converting to a X Challenge on my return. Shame in many ways as the Dakar is excellent and it would be a shame to damage were I to drop it (which is highly probable - the XC is ugly to start with anyway!)

I like this forum so I'm glad there's the opportunity to stay.

are bigger bikes - bmw bikes better though? many that i look at GS, R, RR and chat to their riders alon the lines of, "ooh, swap you", actually say their bikes are too big. I want a r850r, just cos its not a k and its twin. i guess the economy is good too.

well thats a sexy bike pic there... "ooh come sit on me, and we'll ride the steppes of russia together" or is it afreekakakaka?

Hi Nojathan
I asked a few BMW specialists about this. I was curious about the quality of the oil cooled boxers in comparison to the old R80 /R100 models.

The R100R is the last with the old boxer engine and if I have to believe the experts will need new valve guides, piston rings, valves and oilstemseals around 120000km. All the main bearings and bigends are usually okay at this stage.
My R1100R should be okay for up to 200000 to 300000 km. A clutch can last between 80000 /150000 km.
The F650 should be okay for at least 100000 km is my guess. Might get further I have heard 160000km.
The boxers are a lot more expensive to maintain. Not just because its a boxer but also because it has more expensive tyres, more weight so more wear on brakes and discs and more complicated.
I will service my own bike but I need to invest in special tools. Which You hardly need for the F650 models.
I bought my BMW at a Triumph dealer ( he has been a BMW specialist for 30 years or so) and he said that the new Triumphs are better as a BMW.
I think that the Rotax engine is really good and probably one of the best single cylinder bikes.
I think that bigger will last longer but will cost more over a certain period to keep it on the road.
Just check prices for parts and you see what I mean.
