Getting my '98 f650 Funduro sorted for summer riding and upon opening the airbox to clean air filter, noticed that bottom has melted - good sized hole & you can see exhaust pipe under. Never noticed this before. Noticed smoke from that area when running it for oil change. Any reason for this to happen now? Now I need to get a new airbox. My questions:

1. Why? Exhaust hotter than usual? What does that mean?
2. Any tips for parts?
3. Is airbox base tough to replace, or straightforward?

Thanks! I want to get riding and this isn't happiness.

Hi I did up a Funduro last year and noticed mine was open to the elements at the bottom too. The damage indicated it had come into contact with the exhaust at some point. I just bought a second hand item from E bay. I think it would not be too difficult to rivet in a repair possibly with a thin bit of plate. Once I reassembled the bike there was about an inch of clearance under the airbox.
