Hello All, I have a flat back tyre :-(. I've replaced the valve core but it's leaking from the base of the valve housing (i.e. the threaded part that goes into the wheel). It's a tubeless tyre. How do I go about fixing that? Can I fix it or does it require a new tyre? Thanks in advance, Matt

Hi How much are the valve shims from a BMW dealer usually. I am going to be needing one or two but I was curious if it is better to buy some more. I know that they are cheap at Motorworks but I have to get them from my local dealer here. If they are cheap enough I will get some more . It is a...

Hi, I am going to service my 2004 650GS pretty soon, I am confident to carry out a full service (@13,000 miles or so) apart from the valve clearance check and adjustment. I have found a video link on you-tube which really helps but it looks like the engine he is working on in the video is...

I'm trying to find out some info - for my Pegaso actually on what the spark timing is with the standard ECU - or even a remapped bike? This info would be many years old now bit does anyone know if it has ever been done? This would need to be for the 5 valve single spark (Funduro) Thanks.

Just done the clearances. All ok and within tollerance. The Haynes manual was excellent, and I got the spark plug tool and feeler guage from Motorworks. I ran in a spare throttle cable while I was in there too. It was only mildly terrifying dismantling the bike to get in to the cams. I was...

I have my 2004 dakar apart for a water pump change. The bike has 40,000k on it and I have owned it since 20,000k I do not known if the valves have ever been checked. The chain gang web site explains it pretty well on how to do it . Where does one get a tdc bolt and a crank stop bolt? I am some...

Just bought a 1998 F650 Funduro. Its done 16000 miles, serviced by previous owner. He bought a bag of shims to change himself, but reckons as it sounded fine he never bothered. As far as i am aware, the valve clearance should be checked at 12000 miles. The bike runs well, good fuel economy, does...

Hello fellow F650 riders :howdy: I feel that this request is a wimp excuse to get my valve clearances done for free. But really I am wanting to learn how to do this job with confidence and if needed the right tools. The other thing is in a drip free well lit shed or garage with someone that...

Guys, I have stripped down and powdercoated a single spark. Put everything back together like 5 times ( can confidently disassemble and assemble in less than an hour now). Doing the valve checking I found that the right hand exhaust valve is sticking when fully pressed in by the cam. When the...

Checked the Funduro's valve clearance last night. Very strange thing came up. 3 of the 4 valves are within tolerance 0.10 and 0.15. But for the inlet right side valve I can't get even a 0.05 in. The bike has done 19000 miles and is a 1994 model. I've had it since 2003 (8000 miles) and it is...

:howdy: My GS 2001 has done 15k miles and although it had its 12k service at 13k by the Honda dealer that sold it to me, I know they didn't look at the valve clearances. The 6k service was done by a BMW dealer but its not clear from the book if they looked either. Is this check really needed at...

Hi All, After two years of letting a BMW dealer charge me the best part of £300 a time, I had a go at my first service at the weekend. I started off checking the valve clearances which took most of the day (I'm sure it'll be much quicker next time) and that's as far as I got. The bikes now in...

A mate of mine has a Tuareg with Rotax 562cc motor. He has removed the cam belt to renew it and then found he had not checked the pulley marks. His young lad was seen to be playing with the cam pulley, so now he needs to know if the pulley marks go together or away from each other or even...

Well, I rolled my shirt sleeves up and dived straight in - a bit of DIY valve clearance checking :-D . Pretty straight forward, but it took an hour just to expose the valve train :-( (takes only 3 bolts, about one minute on the old twins). No problems, but I did discover some bad 'chaffing' on...
