got the F650GS last week as my winter/commute hack and must say that to my surprise I am really enjoying the bike, in it's own way its as much fun to ride as my Street Triple R :-D
When I bought it I was told it was factory lowered and had 'some' service history, well 'some' was right...
was wondering if someone who has done the job might be able to help me out... I am looking at getting the parts together to do the rear swing arm and shock mountings... all need to be stripped and cleaned so have to do the bearings etc as after 15 years the seals will not stay water...
I have just bought a 2009 BMW f650gs with the 800 cc engine. I am only short and need to lower the bike as much as possible. i have heard you can lower the front forks. is this the case and by how much can the suspenson be lowered. Also how is this achieved. Thanks brezz
Looking at obtaining a 'showa' replacement rear shocker for my 2003 dakar, is this unit the same dimensions (ie bolt hole to bolt hole etc ) for GS or Funduro, a seller says it is same on both ?
Seems similar with external resevoir, Am I right that Funduro was predecessor to GS/Dakar? and extra...
I think the suspension adjuster, pre load? , is used to compensate for luggage etc but how do you use it? and I dont mean just turn the handle!
Do you normally have it low or high? Or is it Hard and soft
When do you adjust it, what difference does it make?
Any pointers appreciated :thumb:
I'm changing the bike so have a 2" kit, bought from US for my 2002 Dakar but according to their website seems to fit most models. Good condition, seals and bearings fine.
Great either for vertically challenged or confidence offroad.
£50 incl postage. Also see my other posting for other...
OK guys when did you last give all the bolts a good going over?
I had the back wheel out and noticed a little verticle play in the rear swing arm. Close look shows the lower bush on the dog bone moving.
Closer look and the bolt looked loose, head not flush but threads protruding.
Hi all just sharing my experience with you re removal of standard rear shock to replace it with WP shock  .
I used FAQ from the Chain Gang regarding installing an OHLINS shock, on this it shows a way of accessing the top mount bolt for the shock by loosening the exhaust header pipe away...
Any help or pointers gratefully accepted!
Apparently my GS had been factory lowered, but the sidestand hits the road a bit to early. Does anyone know how to confirm it has been factory lowered, not just an incomplete retro lowering.
All the suspension links look original and the side stand is...
Hi, my wife is a short-a**e, she has a 54 reg 650 GS, I've lowered the forkes through the yokes about 40 mm, but she still struggles to get her foot on the floor. The daft trout has dropped it twice & I need to lower the rear suspension either by the "dog bones" or rear shock, obviously dog...
Just wondering where you have the (preload I think its called ) rear suspension adjusted to, ie how many clicks clockwise, and if you adjust according to luggage or type of riding. and by how much.
All the bolts have come out.......except one. Sod's Law means it is the one buried behind everything else on the frame and can't get a direct hit with a hammer and drift.
I'm pretty sure that the bolt has seized into the bush. I can turn the bolt OK but I suspect it is just turning with the...
Hi all. I have a 97 F650 Funduro with 14000 miles - it's lowered, ie side & centre stand to suit (unsure what else would have been done to get it lower) - that's how it was when I got it so unsure if it came like that from BMW or someone has done the convesion.
Anyway, the suspension is set to...
Any insight into this odd problem would be most appreciated.
My strada shock seems have too much travel. I noticed this after recently replacing the top chain roller which was shredded. Wihin a few days the new one was shredded too (large gouges in the roller where the chain has...
