Thought I would let you all know I passed MOD 2 today, straight to Swinton insured the bike. By the time I got home tipping down with rain and getting dark so didn't get the bike out but watch this space the weekend is fast approaching.
Has anyone got first hand experience of these two off road?
I know about more ground clearance on Dakar and 21" front wheel.
Is thereabyhing else I should be considering? Weight difference? Droppability? Overall ability?
Anyone had them both?
So following the decision to see if my 1995 Funduro still worked (see this) I went about sorting out an MOT.
I wasn't able to find an overhaul kit for the brake calipers, so flushed the front and rears with new fluid, and cleaned them as best I could.

I have a set of BMW plastic panniers and the mountings that sit on the bar have broken away.
I am going to get the hooks remade in metal but am wondering if this will be a waste of time/money. I am planning on doing some overlanding next spring and don't want them to fall apart or OFF...

A great weekend away watchin bikes skim the hedgerows, stone walls, spectators at lunatic speeds.A tiny village converted to a home for the insane for the weekend. Brilliant. google the Faugheen 50 road race and see what I mean.All the top guys are there,hospitality is second to none.Has to be seen.
It looks like I'm going to be spending a week very close to Bamburgh around the 10th to 17th July and would really like to take the GS with me, as well as the family!

Spotted this issue on the transalp forum, and it seems genuine enough - it really is the PM's petition website. And they really do seem to want to increase road tax for bikes to be higher than cars. So I've signed it. Its worth a try.

I'm considering riding in Africa late next year (from Cape Town to North Namibia) and would like to get some off-road experience before then - as gravel scares me at the moment!!!

Call me a wooss if you must but the only time my 04 GS goes off road is when it is parked in my garage, and although I have had manufacturer spec service out of the nobbly Tourance tyres I have read good reports about using road spec rubber on enduros' that are purely tarmac terriers...
