OK, so I'm watching this weeks' fifth gear and there's a test of a VW vs fiaty thing and they insist on quoting "pounds foot" of torque, rather than "foot pounds" of torque. Now since "pounds foot" = 1 / "Foot pounds" I think that means that Fifth Gear Presenter = Vacuous TWAT! , or am I...

To day I jacked the front of the bike up to change the fork seals and noticed that there was a distictive also very stiff point in the straight ahead position of the handle bars. Move away from this to the left or right and the steering was nice and evan. There is no play in the head bearings...

Hi guys, I'm looking to replace my SHB as they badly need it but I'm unsure about the special tool that they say you need. Is it really required? ;Um: If so, where is the best place to purchase one? And if they're expensive (And being BMW we all know it will be!), does anyone have one they...

First post - I've recently become the owner of a 1997 F650 strada, with 50 odd thousand miles on it, it needs a bit of work, but my query is head bearing replacement, is it possible to renew the bearings without replacing the bearing tracks if they appear ok, visibly. From what I've read using...

hi guys, as you may have seen on my other posts I am preparing the Funduro I bought last week for the missus. So far, i have sorted out the brake light switch and other little bits and pieces. the next thing i will pay attention too are the forks. the left fork stanchion is quite badly pitted...

Serously, i did this today, it took about 2 hours... I saved myself at least a50 quid on labour charges, and its actually quite fun, but then again, i like pain... Just made me realise what a flecked up load of designers they have at BMW, why do they not make anything straight forward, special...

Well, the inevitable has caught up with me. After a mere 9000 miles-or-so the headset has got too notchy to ignore for much longer... :-( I really ought to just get on and do the job myself - it's not that hard - but I'd rather be riding than fettling, so I'm tempted to find a garage to do it...

I've been running a blog to chart my fumbling attempts to fix the cross- threaded spark plug hole. I've now got the head off and I'll be taking it somewhere to get a time-sert put in. In the mean time, a couple of questions 1. There's a bit of carbon deposits on the head and valves. What's the...

Looking for a bit of advice please. I took the bike (2004 Dakar Twin) to be serviced three weeks ago and they seemed to have done a decent job but they mentioned that the head bearing would need changing sooner rather than later. I hadn't noticed anything riding it before then, but since then I...

Hi folks Guess what; head bearings gone. I'm arranging to have them sorted at a local bike shop but need confirmation of the spec numbers of the bearings. Is it 30205? I've seen this number on lots of threads but all seem to relate to single spark bikes. Mine's an 04, twin spark Dakar. Can...

Just had my 12K service done by Bahnstormer (ex-SPC) and my head bearings need £175 worth of attention. Is this normal? If not why me, what am I likley to have done to them? The bike's not ridden off road and I've never hit anything. Mike

I have never had to replace a headlight bulb (which is good), although on inspection when the light is off it seems very grey and misty. If i was going to replace it, would it be best to just stick to the basic bulb o change to one of the newer, blue ish xenon type jobs? Any thoughts? V.

:howdy: I'm trying to take the head off my '00 GS, to change the gasket, and so far all has gone well - fairly slow, but no real problems. So now I'm up to the part where the manual says: "Remove screws securing cylinder head to frame" and then it says: "Use pin wrench BMW No. 11 6 661, to...

I have looked on the chain gang and can't find anything under this heading? Do they call them something different?? Anyone had experience of adjusting/tightening the bearings up? on a 94 Funduro. Jim.
