Something I worked out and thought may be useful for others.
When I fitted a centre stand, my side stand interfered with it. However I noticed that the frame has 5mm tapping in the perfect position for a side stand stop. It may be that mine was missing, and they have these anyway!
I then found...
Basically its as the heading says, I have used this link for clutch adjustment
And my OH can only get it to work if its set to 44mm between the fork and the inside of the crank case anchor.
The bikes got 18000 miles on it and although it was just...
My brake lever doesn't quite sit on the microswitch when released which means that the brake light stays on unless I slightly push the lever.
How can I adjust the lever to stop this happening?
I searched previous threads but couldn't find anything relevant.
After adjusting the steering head bearings as I replaced them a while ago I noticed that they do tighten up while the engine goes warm.
And when I felt the steering head that didn't surprise me at all. It was probably about 70 to 80 degrees C.
So one good reason when you adjust them to...
I'm finding that my brake pedal is too high.
being 6'3" doesn't help I think and the awkward angle my foot / ankle is in when I'm on the back brake is causing me to brake a bit heavy at times (locked the back end up when doing a bit of an emergency stop last week
has anyone found a...
Just wondering where you have the (preload I think its called ) rear suspension adjusted to, ie how many clicks clockwise, and if you adjust according to luggage or type of riding. and by how much.
working on an F650CS, 2003, belt drive. How is the belt tension adjusted ?
Though it's already a low seat model, we need to lower it even more for a very short rider. I'm thinking this means longer links between the triangular pivot at the bottom of the shock and the swinging arm.
 I have read all the posts about belt adjustment, thanks to all who have posted on the subject before. But my question is, what size torx fitting do i need to both slacken the lock screws and the belt adjuster screw?
Going to tackle task on saturday, all help gladly received :-D
I have a 2000 F650GS (fuel injection). The idle speed is a touch high - initially around 2,000 rpm, then slowly settling to around 1,600. Is there ae easy way to adjust the idle speed? The throttle stop screw on the throttle body seems not to have no means of turning it, which suggests to me...
 Hiya folks. Having just fitted HID lights to my CS a couple of weeks ago, i am enjoying my ride to work now that i can see where i am going. However my main beam seems to point up and off to the left. How do i adjust that so i can get the benefit of extra light on the road! Low beam is...
The chain definitely needs adjusting. It's not something I've ever had to do before, so slightly nervous.
My GS has no centrestand, however the BMW owners manual advises Dakar owners that they can do it on the sidestand (I own a simple GS). Also, I don't own a big torque wrench, although I do...
this may seem like a bit of a nooby question. When you are adjusting the chain on a funduro, is the slack measurement printed on the swing arm refering to the bike on the center stand or with someone sitting on the bike. if it is the latter does anyone have any sugestions on how...
Having snapped my belt drive this morning, luckily about 20m from my house!
I now need to replace the belt and whilst at it I thought that I would replace the rear tyre which has a temp repair plug in it.
My questions are;
Does a normal socket fit the rear wheel nut which according to the manual...
I have replaced my throttle cable but notice that the new cable holds the valve open (the stopper bar is about 1/2 inch or so away from the rotating cable assembly -when the throttle is totally off.)
The adjuster at the handlebar is twisted in fully.
I compared the old and new cables...
Does anyone bother on their 650? Usually buy the stick on ones for the car.
Manual states 'consult a specialised workshop, preferably an authorised BMW motorcycle dealer.' Sounds like a good way for them to make a few more quid out of me - and are they going to meet me at either side of the...
 Can anyone tell me were to find info on adjusting the belt drive on my cs.
I have downloaded the repair manuel from the link on this site and the section in question is missing.
Is that a cunning plan by BMW to keep said info out of the hands of us DIY mechanics, or have i missed...
as you know the clutch lever is very far to reach on a F650 but lately within the last 3 months or so I have developed a pain from my wrist to my elbow, it nags me when I get off the bike and in work I have to lift boxes etc. question I know I have to see a doc but would the clutch...
The manual, [thanks pondboy] says: "Release lever (1) on the gearbox must be located on the splines such that when it is pressed forward as far as the release point, distance "A" is as specified" i.e. 47-52mm.
I'm not sure what this exactly means - instinct says when I pull the clutch lever in...
Tis me again.
As descibed in my last post I have now managed to adjust the free play in the rear brake on my F650 classic. Now I need to adjust the point at which the rear brake light switch activates - I cannot see how to get at it to adjust it - any thoughts please.
Additionally the foot...
