Riding? 2005 F650GS.
I am having a nightmare week. Firstly last Sunday morning at 1am the wiring loom shorted on the frame on a motorway in France, blowing main fuse and now she keeps overheating.
The fan works and the waterpump appears to be working.( It was replaced 18 mths ago.)
I flushed all the system out and have followed Chain gang instructions on bleeding the system, but still no joy.
When the temp light comes on, water comes out of header tank.
The 2 pipes from the waterpump are hard and hot.
The pipe from the rad through the frame and to the engine is hard and hot.
However the fan, although working, blows cool/ warm air not hot as normal.
1) Could this be a thermostat fault.
2) Can I remove and run the bike without a thermostat until I can locate one and fit this weekend?
If so. please could someone tell me exactly where on the bike to locate said thermostat.
Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated.
No problem running without a stat, it's in the bottom lefthand side housing of the radiator directly below the filler cap. Pull the clip out and remove the thermostat, if you don't ride in the winter I wouldn't bother replacing it.
The pin which secures the impeller to the drive spindle had disintergrated. ( Only found one small piece though).
So no water flow around the engine.
Can't buy single pin from BM or anyone else I've tried so far, so will have to by service kit for water pump.
Unless anyone knows where I can get the right pin for the job ?
