    Default Cockpit removal

I have an `04 GS and I`ve given up on trying to find a screen that reduces noise/buffeting. I took the Dakar screen off and found that no screen seems to be the least noisy option.

My problem is during my experiments one of the captive nuts that hold the screen bolts has come off. Can anyone suggest the best way to disassemble the cockpit to replace this thing?

    Cheers

In order to take off the headlight cover you will need to firstly remove the front blinkers. The screws hold part of the black shroud in place. After that all you will need to do is remove the plactic screws holding the front part of the cover and off it comes.

    The repair manual just says
-remove the left and right fairing
    -remove cockpit fasteners

it really is as simple as that

As for the noise I suggest getting a good pair of earplugs or get a screen like Trevor's.

    happy tinkering

Is yours blue? Where you at the Law Ride recently? If so I was also there on a Pan and thought....odd! No screen...All becomes clear if that is so.

    Hi Gary

Yes that was me. Quite a few people commented on the lack of screen and there was me thinking no one notice!

Out of interest, what do you think of the wind buffeting without the screen on. I realize it will affect you more at speed, but does it change the turbulence characteristics.

I found the standard short screen makes no difference to noise or buffeting. i.e. it was the same without.
The Dakar screen made it worse for me as it channeled the wind up into my face.
I rationalised that as I rarely travel on M/ways and dont get above 60mph that often that I was as well to stay with the standard screen or dont bother with one at all.
There is more wind pressure on my chest with the small screen but you have to decide what you`re going to use the bike for,
