Default Lake District (date changed) - 25 & 26 September 2010

Been toying with the idea of riding around the Lake District on august Bank Holiday weekend. Never been before, though I've seen some stunning photos.

Would you recommend any spots in particular? And is anyone else up for it? Enjoy the last days of summer riding!

EDIT: date moved to september 25th / 26th (saturday/sunday) - more the merrier!

Too many lakes! Not enough (good) roads.

Head for Wales instead, you won't be able to understand the locals when they swear at you

Aye true, but I ended up in wales last year. Originally intended on the Lake District, but the missus decided that we head west instead! Saw a nice village made of stone (Dollegau) and some really good roads.

A mate runs a cafe in Ambleside, so thus will chance it with up north this year.

Hope you've got your accommodation booked already, you might struggle otherwise, Bank Holiday weekend is likely to be rammed. I'd opt for September personally, but no matter. You shouldn't miss Borrowdale, take the B5289 out of Keswick, I can highly recommend the Kirkstile Inn at Loweswater, then back over the Whinlatter Pass to Keswick. The Kirkstone Pass and along the shores of Ullswater would be another fine excursion from Ambleside. I take Wilbur's point about the roads, but not about Wales, for lovers of Wainwright there is only Lakeland

Regards

Might end up doing this in mid September instead now. The mate who runs the Ambleside cafe will be away at a wedding. Either way, will definitely go before it gets too cold again!

Honister Pass would be cracking on a bike as well Derek. There are two youth hostels in Keswick, both of which are nice enough.

Nice one

Are you up for it in september?

I can't keep up with a 1000cc on the motorway, but could meet ya there and go exploring around the area.

No Derek, I'm either going to Lithuania in September or Prague in October, won't be able to get more time off.

Depending on the dates you decide, I might be up for this. Dont need much of an excuse to get into the lakes

Nice.

Am planning for September 24th & 25th (saturday/sunday).
Probably take half a day off work on Friday to ride up from London, two days looking around, and back down on the Monday. Hostels are about £17 quid a night.
