Hi,
I have just got a 2003 F650CS, 20K miles. I have been looking in to running costs and my local BMW have quoted me £500 for the 24k service and £375 for a set of tyres. Apparently the service includes changing the fuel filter. Is this a reasonable cost? It seems a little steep to me, or have I been stupid and got a bike that was sold because it is just about to need a huge service? This is not including the belt, which they wanted to quote me for, but was done at 20k miles. Last edited by PaulM; 08-02-2010 at 03:36 PM. |

Ouch,
I'd look for an independent mechanic if it were mine or more likely do it myself. what tyres were they quoting for? Ian. p.s. welcome to the forum

I would do it myself, but I would rather a competent mechanic take a look at the bike as I have no idea how it has been treated by the last owner and what is hidden away from a basic check over (It did come from an independant dealer so it should be OK, but you never know). Also, I see myself more as more of an incompetent mechanic. No problem when it comes to electrics but when it comes to anything mecanical, beyond hitting stuff with a hammer, I get very worried. I do have a local garage who looked after my last bike, but they can't give me a cost until they know what needs doing. Thank you very much

if you take a look at the Chain Gang FAQs (link at the top of the page) there's loads of info on all of the F650 range, that along with a workshop manual will give you most of the info you're ever likely to need for servicing.

I've just got rid of my CS, and the minor servicing was very easy. There is a workshop manual you can download from this site, which helps.

Hmmm, £375 for a pair of tyres, even if it does include fitting and balancing, is way over the top.
Just done a quick check with Crossans Motorcycles (http://www.thevisorshop.com/) and a pair of Michelin Pilot Power tyres in the correct sizes for your F650S comes to £185 - and that includes delivery to anywhere in the UK or Ireland. So, you would need to fit them, or get someone to fit them for you - but they are nearly £200 cheaper! As has been suggested, find an independent garage / mechanic. |

![]() It won't be much use for me to service the bike, unless the first page says "Tools needed: one big hammer", but we have found one invaluble for fault finding on my wifes bike. |

Paul, I've got the manual. PM me with an email address and I'll pass it on to you.
